Upper Deck signs autograph deal with Pete Rose January 6, 2010, 1:54 pm This is another of those benefits of being unlicensed. Upper Deck announced Wednesday that it has signed all-time hits leader Pete Rose to an autograph deal to include him in the company’s 2010 baseball sets. He will make his debut alongside “Shoeless” Joe Jackson in 2010 Goudey Baseball, which is set to arrive on March 18. Like Jackson, Rose is on baseball’s ineligible list after he was banned for life for gambling. Because of this, Rose cannot appear on any cards or memorabilia licensed by Major League Baseball Properties. Upper Deck’s 2010 cards are only licensed by the MLB Players Association. Because of this, Rose has appeared on just one card produced by Upper Deck — a card in the the 1994 Upper Deck: The American Epic set (above). His only appearances on cards since 1989 (not many) have been in products that were not licensed by MLB Properties. “Despite his current ban from baseball, Pete Rose’s signature and game-used memorabilia cards continue to be sought-after by baseball fans and card collectors everywhere,” said Gabriel Garcia, Upper Deck’s baseball brand manager in a release. “We are extremely excited to have Pete be a part of our newest baseball card releases.” 2009 Topps Sterling Baseball...Loaded with new info..

Completing a set of trading cards can be difficult sometimes, but the satisfaction one feels when it’s complete is pretty special. We wanted to make it achievable once again for one of Upper Deck’s most famous baseball sets: “Legendary Cuts Signature Cuts.” These cards feature an authenticated cut signature of a deceased baseball legend. In previous years, with so many 1-of-1 and extremely limited versions of the cards, it was impossible to put an entire set together. In 2009, we decided we would make each cards limited to at least five copies so it would be possible for a devoted SP Legendary Cuts fan to put the entire “Legendary Cuts Signature Cuts” set together.

MOUNT KISCO - On the walls at Forever in Bloom are glass cases displaying bridal bouquets of roses, orchids and peonies that have been freeze-dried so they'll stand the test of time. In a back room are samples of other mementos that have also been preserved for perpetuity - little circular patches of grass from the original Yankee Stadium. (June 11, 2008) A federal court in Indiana has issued a Temporary Restraining Order halting the sale of 2008 SP Legendary Cuts by Upper Deck, it's distributors and agents immediately. Judge Richard Young issued the order June 10 and it lasts though JUne 20 or until it can be shown otherwise in a hearing. Topps and CMG, the company which owns the rights to a number of deceased players which Topps has licensed and which Upper Deck had previously licensed, is enjoined in the suit with Topps.

In what has become a hobby nightmare and will be for some weeks to come, some distributors had already begun shipping UD SP Legendary Cuts to their customers who are at least a two day ship from their facility. There are so many hobby stores who don't have the ability to walk into their wholesalers and who depend on product being on hand on release day (Thursday for UD SP LC) the distirbutors ship it to arrive on that release day.
