11/13/2009 UD's WEEK 9 Rookies of the Week is...
In his first start as an NFL quarterback, Josh Freeman led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to their first win of the season over the Green Bay Packers. Freeman was drafted 17th overall out of Kansas State to be the future of the franchise, and he lived up to all the expectations as he finished with 205 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Not to be overlooked was his game winning touchdown pass to fellow rookie Sammie Stroughter that came with 4:14 left in the 4th quarter. Expect to hear more from this rookie as the season progresses.

Just another week in paradise, right? A lot of action and a few upsets, as well as a few top rookies coming back down to earth. I was pretty much glued to my computer during the afternoon, watching all of my fantasy teams getting killed by the Patriots players, Ray Rice, and MJD respectively. I had fun, and here are some updates on the rookies as usual.

More than 24 hours later, Miles Austin’s out-of-nowhere, videogame afternoon against the Kansas City Chiefs still boggles the mind.
In the first start of his four-year NFL career, Austin caught 10 passes for a Dallas Cowboys’ franchise-record 250 yards and two touchdowns, including a game-winning 60-yarder in overtime. Not bad for an undrafted free agent from Monmouth University who entered Sunday’s game with lifetime totals of 23 receptions, 435 yards and four touchdowns.

NFL PLAYERS, the licensing and marketing subsidiary of the NFL Players Association, announced recently the release of the NFL PLAYERS Caricature line, its first exclusively licensed collection featuring illustrations of current NFL players on a combination of T-shirts, mugs, water bottles, school supplies and other non-apparel products. The unique player images are owned exclusively by NFL PLAYERS and highlight player personalities and individual elements reflective of the markets in which they play.

Two rare 2008 Topps Brett Favre variations have collectors scratching their heads. Favre is on card #34 in the base set, and is pictured ready to take a shotgun snap. One of the variations, listed as #34B in the Price Guide, features a ghosted image of Vince Lombardi's face above Favre's left shoulder.
